2008 Fairmont Homes Summer Night Series - Game Night 1
Adelaide Blue Eagles v West Adelaide Blues
The second game of the night was a physical encounter between ABE and West Adelaide.
The first half was a dour affair with no clear chances to either side. ABE always threatened with some good attacking play, but couldn't break down the resolute West Adelaide defence. The best chance for the half fell to Blue Eagles when Sattin whipped in a cross from the left which was well met by Forte, but the resulting header flew well wide of the right upright.
The second half started well for Blue Eagles, playing the long ball to stretch the West Adelaide defence. Pellegrini was unlucky not to score at the 5 minute mark when a deep corner for ABE was played back into the box by Campbell and the Pellegrini header was cleared off the line by Weaver for West Adelaide. 5 minutes later the cross bar denied Pellegrini with another well met header from a Campbell cross from the right.
Forte was having a great game for Blue Eagles, troubling the West Adelaide defenders. At the ten minute mark of the second half, a run through the box by Forte and subsequent tackle resulted in a penalty appeal that was turned down.
The deadlock was broken in the 25th minute when a strong run down the centre by Blue Eagles defender Kendrick saw the ball played wide left to Campbell and the resulting cross was brilliantly brought down by Forte and the low hard shot flew wide of West Adelaide keeper Cardle into the net.
